U.S. Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division holds seminar on H-1B procedures for Georgia employers

ATLANTA -- The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division today held an informational seminar at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park to educate employers about H-1B worker protections.

The H-1B program allows an employer to temporarily employ a foreign worker in the United States on a nonimmigrant basis in a specialty occupation.

“This seminar is designed to assist H-1B employers in achieving and maintaining compliance standards,” said Connie Klipsch, southeastern regional administrator for the Wage and Hour Division.

This outreach event was conducted by the Wage and Hour Division’s Atlanta District Office. Topics included information on required wages, prevailing wages and actual wages; notification requirements; and employer and employee rights.

The Wage and Hour Division is responsible for enforcing the provisions of the H-1B program. H-1B workers are to be paid the same wage rates and benefits as those paid to workers in the United States who are already performing similar jobs in the same geographic areas.

For more information about H-1B specialty occupations under the Immigration and Nationality Act, or other laws enforced by the Wage and Hour Division, call the Wage and Hour Division’s Atlanta District Office at (404) 893-4600 or the Department of Labor’s toll-free help line at (866) 4US-WAGE (487-9243).
