TAMPA, Fla. --

The U.S. Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division is offering three free training seminars to assist farm labor contractors and agricultural employers with compliance requirements of the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act (MSPA).

DeSoto County - The first session will be held Mon., Dec. 4, at the Turner Acri-Civic Annex Center, 2250 N.E. Roan St., Arcadia.

Polk County - The second session will be held Tues., Dec. 5, at the Florida Citrus Building, Nora Mayo Hall, 500 3rd St., N.W., Winter Haven.

Manatee County - The third session will be held Wed., Dec. 6, at the Manatee Convention Center, Civic Center, 1 Haben Blvd., Palmetto.

Each session begins at 5:30 p.m.

Federal and state representatives will conduct the training---with special emphasis on transportation, housing and registration--- to help prevent sub-standard migrant housing and improve vehicle safety for migrant and agricultural workers. H-2A temporary agricultural nonimmigrant application procedures, compliance requirements and related topics also will be discussed.

The Wage and Hour Division enforces the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Workers Protection Act. The agency also administers the Fair Labor Standards Act, which sets minimum wage, overtime pay, record-keeping and youth employment standards; the Family Medical Leave Act; the Davis Bacon and Service Contract Acts which govern federal contract prevailing wages, the Employee Polygraph Protection Act, and several provisions of the immigration laws.
