U.S. Labor Department, North Carolina Farm Bureau Partnership to Help Improve Compliance with Labor Laws

Raleigh Signing Ceremony Scheduled for May 9

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The U.S. Labor Department will sign a compliance partnership agreement with the North Carolina Farm Bureau to help agricultural employers comply with laws administered by the department’s Wage and Hour Division.

“Working together, we can provide farm labor contractors, growers, employees and the public with information they need to comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act, and the H-2A program under the Immigration and Nationality Act,” said Janet Campbell, district director for Wage and Hour’s Raleigh office.

Campbell and John Blaine, district director for Wage and Hour’s Charlotte office, will sign the statewide agreement.

Wage and Hour staff will conduct training sessions during conferences and seminars sponsored by the Farm Bureau which will disseminate information and educational materials to its membership. Members include approximately 2,400 agricultural employers and 400,000 families. The members will also be encouraged to meet with farm labor contractors, discuss requirements of the laws and monitor their activities to ensure that farm workers are properly paid, provided adequate housing, and transported to worksites in safe vehicles operated by licensed drivers.

Date-Time: Monday, May 9, 2005 11:30 a.m.

Location: Farm Bureau Office 5310 Glenwood Avenue Raleigh, N.C
