Faribault, Minn., Group Home Operator Agrees to Pay More than $30,000 in Back Wages Following U.S. Labor Department Investigation

MINNEAPOLIS --

Employees of Rison Homes Inc. will receive a total of $30,262.09 in overtime back wages from their employer as a result of a U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) investigation. Rison Homes Inc. is an operator of residential group homes for the developmentally disabled at three locations in Faribault, Minn.

An investigation of the business by the DOL’s Wage and Hour Division revealed violations of the overtime pay provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the nation’s overtime pay law. Specifically, the DOL found that employees were not paid time and one-half for hours over 40 in a single workweek, as required by the FLSA. As a result, 43 employees will receive back wages. The business has agreed to comply with the overtime pay provisions of the FLSA in the future.

“The department is committed to ensuring that workers are paid all the wages owed them, and particularly low-wage workers whose limited hourly earnings makes those wages essential,” said Jose L. Medina, district director of the DOL’s Wage and Hour office in Minneapolis.

In addition to the overtime provisions, the FLSA requires employees to be paid at least minimum wage for all hours worked and requires employers to maintain accurate records of employees’ wages, hours and other conditions of employment. The law also regulates the employment of young workers under age 18

For further information about the FLSA and other laws administered by the Wage and Hour Division, call the DOL’s toll-free help line at 1-866-4USWAGE (1-866-487-9243), visit the Wage and Hour Division Web site at www.wagehour.dol.gov or contact the Minneapolis district office at (612) 370-3371.
