U.S. Department of Labor offers new service to assist nuclear weapons industry workers searching for medical care providers

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor has announced a new service that will assist nuclear weapons industry workers receiving medical benefits under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA).

This service, a new Web portal, allows users to look up medical providers who have enrolled with the Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation (DEEOIC) Program. Program officials are confident that the new provider look-up service will assist those workers and their families seeking DEEOIC-enrolled physicians, hospices and other home health care providers in their areas. The department’s Resource Centers will work one-on-one with claimants needing assistance using the new portal, which is available at: http://owcp.dol.acs-inc.com.

The EEOICPA provides federal compensation and medical benefits to employees who became ill as a result of working in the nuclear weapons industry. To date, more than $210 million has been paid in medical benefits under the act.

One of the workers’ compensation program’s main goals has been to provide improved customer service in its medical benefits delivery to claimants. Earlier this year, the department announced that resource center staff would work one-on-one with claimants and health care providers to facilitate medical benefits delivery under the EEOICPA. Resource centers are based in 11 locations nationwide, and provide in-person and telephone-based assistance.

The Web portal also offers information regarding enrolled providers under the Black Lung Benefits Act and the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act.
