Deputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte Addressing the 2007 Athenagoras Human Rights Award Banquet

Deputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte will address the 2007 Athenagoras Human Rights Award Banquet on Saturday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the New York Hilton Hotel, 1335 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY.

The Order of St. Andrew is a group of laymen supporting the Greek Orthodox Church. They are recognized as "Defenders of the Faith" and are granted the title of Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople. The Order presents the Athenagoras Human Rights Award at its annual banquet to a person who has consistently exemplified concern for human rights and religious freedom. His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America has been selected to receive the 2007 Athenagoras Human Rights Award.

The banquet will be open for press coverage. Media planning to attend this event must call Nikki Stephanopoulos.

Media representatives must present one of the following: (1) Foreign Press Center badge, (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by official photo identification (driver's license or passport).
