Naming of Senior Advisor to the Deputy Secretary for Iraq Management IssuesAt the request of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Ambassador Steven A. Browning has agreed to serve temporarily as a Senior Adviser to the Deputy Secretary for Iraq Management Issues. Ambassador Browning, who currently serves as the U.S. Ambassador to Uganda, will collaborate closely with Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State and Coordinator for Iraq David Satterfield. He will oversee and provide guidance to the Deputy Secretary on a range of management issues related to the Department's presence in Iraq. Upon completion of this temporary assignment, Mr. Browning is expected to return to Uganda.
Ambassador Browning is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, who prior to assignment to Uganda, served as the Minister Counselor for Management in the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. Prior to his assignment in Uganda, he served as Ambassador to the Republic of Malawi.
