ARMED CAREER CRIMINAL SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS' IMPRISONMENT

June 12, 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

R. Alexander Acosta, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Julie Torres, Special Agent in Charge, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Mark R. Trouville, Special Agent in Charge, Drug Enforcement Administration, announced that defendant Reginald Charles Fyne of Stuart, Florida was sentenced on June 11, 2007 by United States District Court Judge K. Michael Moore to 188 months' imprisonment.

On March 1, 2007, a Ft. Pierce Grand Jury returned an Indictment charging Fyne with possession with intent to distribute five (5) grams or more of cocaine base (commonly known as crack cocaine), and possession of a firearm by an armed career criminal, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Section 841(a)(1), and Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(e).

On February 8, 2007, members of the Stuart Police Department executed a search warrant at Fyne's residence. As the officers entered the home, Fyne ran into the bathroom. Fyne threw several packets of crack cocaine and powder cocaine into the toilet. The officers restrained Fyne before he had an opportunity to flush the drugs. As a result of the search warrant, officers seized 46.59 grams of crack cocaine, 1.2 grams of powder cocaine, 13 oxycodone tablets, and $800 from the residence. Fyne's living room was equipped with six television monitors which were wired into several video cameras strategically placed around the entire property, granting Fyne a view of all foot and vehicle traffic approaching the residence. In addition, Fyne's vehicle was found to contain drug paraphernalia, cocaine residue, and a Smith & Wesson .45 caliber pistol.

Mr. Acosta commended the investigative efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Stuart Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rinku Talwar.
