CRIMINAL COMPLAINT FILED AGAINST ALLEGED ARMED BANK ROBBER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

R. Alexander Acosta, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Jonathan I. Solomon, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in Miami, and Ric Bradshaw, Sheriff, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO), announce that a criminal complaint was filed on April 27, 2007, against defendant Brandon Beasley for the armed robbery of the Washington Mutual Bank in Lake Worth, Florida on April 27, 2007. The complaint also charges conspiracy to commit an armed robbery and using or brandishing a firearm during and in relation to the bank robbery. On the basis of the criminal Complaint, a criminal arrest warrant was issued and the defendant was arrested. The defendant made his initial appearance in federal court today. A pre-trial detention hearing is scheduled for May 7, 2007 at 10 a.m. If convicted, the maximum statutory sentence for these crimes ranges from 5 years' to life imprisonment.

According to the Complaint, on April 27, 2007, defendant Brandon Beasley and his brother Joshua Beasley committed an armed take-over robbery at the Washington Mutual Bank, located at 9863 Lake Worth Road, in Lake Worth, Florida. In the aftermath of the robbery, PBSO deputies located the Beasleys driving south on Jog Road. A chase ensued during which the Beaseleys crashed their car. Thereafter, Brandon and Joshua Beasley jumped from the car and fled on foot. Joshua Beasley was shot and killed during a struggle with a PBSO deputy. Brandon Beasley, who fled carrying a bag containing bank money and a firearm, was shot when he resisted arrest. Defendant Beasley was treated at a hospital and released into law enforcement custody on April 30, 2007.

Mr. Acosta commended the investigative efforts of the FBI and PBSO. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Janice Le Clainche.
