SOUTHEAST MISSOURI MAN SENTENCED TO 188 MONTHS FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM

A Southeast Missouri man was sentenced today for unlawful possession of a firearm, announced United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway.

NORMAN MEDLEY of Senath, Missouri, was sentenced to 188 months on one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He appeared before United States District Judge Henry E. Autrey.

On December 8, 2005, two individuals burglarized a house in Dunklin County, Missouri, and stole eight firearms, including a Savage .270 caliber rifle. They drove to Norman Medley's house in Dunklin County, Missouri, and displayed the firearms to Mr. Medley. Mr. Medley accepted the Savage .270 caliber rifle and hid the firearm. Mr. Medley was later interviewed and admitted that he was in possession of the firearm. Due to Medley's prior convictions, he is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Hanaway praised the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Bootheel Drug Task Force, the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Keith D. Sorrell handled the prosecution for the Government.
