NEW ORLEANS WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY IN FEDERAL COURT TO IDENTITY THEFT

SAMANTHA SCOTT, age 37, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, pled guilty in federal court today before U. S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon to a one-count Bill of Information for access device fraud, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, SCOTT admitted to opening a fraudulent account with MBNA America in another person’s name and then charging over $10,000 on that account within a one-year time-frame. She faces a possible maximum sentence of ten (10) years imprisonment.
Sentencing has been scheduled for January 14, 2009.
This investigation was conducted by Inspectors with the United States Postal Inspection Service. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Loan “Mimi” Nguyen.
