BRIAN EXPOSE SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS IN PRISON

June 25, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BRIAN EXPOSE, age 35, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced by U. S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier to a total of twenty-five (25) years imprisonment in connection with his convictions for drug trafficking and gun-possession violations, announced U. S Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Barbier imposed ten (10) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time, the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.

EXPOSE pleaded guilty as charged on September 27, 2007, to a five-count Indictment that formally charged him with violations of the Federal Controlled Substances Act and Federal Gun Control Act. EXPOSE has a prior felony conviction in Orleans Parish for possessing crack cocaine.

According to the Factual Basis, New Orleans Police Department detectives conducted surveillance of EXPOSE beginning at his residence in Algiers on March 21, 2006, and observed him in a drug transaction. After obtaining a search warrant, detectives searched EXPOSE’s residence and yard of the neighboring abandoned residence, wherein EXPOSE had been observed brining different bags. Inside the bags, detectives located a total of approximately $186,000.00 cash, 102 grams of crack cocaine, 57 grams of powder cocaine, digital scales, seven different firearms, a silencer, and ammunition. Detectives also located EXPOSE’s cell phone. A search of EXPOSE’s residence revealed a gun case matching one of the weapons that had been recovered, as well as about $2,000.00.

Detectives arrested EXPOSE and booked him in Orleans Parish Prison. Within a day, EXPOSE was released on his own recognizance by Criminal District Court Judge Charles Elloie. EXPOSE was later charged and arrested for violations of federal law. He was later indicted by a Federal Grand Jury in April, 2006.

The Court imposed a sentence within the recommended guidelines range. The 25-year sentence, which included a minimum of 20 years on the drug charge because of EXPOSE’s prior drug conviction as well as a consecutive five-year charge for possessing the firearms, was required by statute. After sentencing, EXPOSE was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service to begin his term of imprisonment.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration, along with Detectives and officers from the New Orleans Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin G. Boitmann.
