FEDERAL GRAND JURY INDICTMENT FOR VIOLATIONS OF THE FEDERAL CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES ACT AND FEDERAL GUN CONTROL ACT

KENDELL JACKSON, age 34, resident of St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana, was charged in a three-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for possessing with the intent to distribute cocaine base (“crack”), a quantity of cocaine hydrochloride, and a quantity of marijuana, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to court documents, on February 22, 2008, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Officers executed a state search warrant on JACKSON’s residence, which he shared with several family members. Upon reaching the entrance to the back room of the house, which was occupied and controlled by JACKSON, officers encountered JACKSON. Officers then proceeded through the back door of that room, which led to the rear of the residence, to a dog kennel controlled by JACKSON. In total, during the course of the search, agents recovered approximately 188 grams of cocaine hydrochloride, 71 grams of cocaine base (“crack”), 145 ounces of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, approximately $10,000 in cash, and several firearms.

If convicted of Count 1, JACKSON faces a minimum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years and a maximum term of life imprisonment, five (5) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment, and a four million dollar fine.

If convicted of Count 2, JACKSON faces term of imprisonment of at least five (5) years, three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment, and a two-hundred and fifty thousand dollar fine.

If convicted of Count 3, JACKSON faces a maximum term of imprisonment of
ten (10) years, three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment, and a two-hundred and fifty thousand dollar fine.

The case was investigated by the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Sean Toomey.
