THREE WESTBANK MEN INDICTED ON FEDERAL DRUG AND GUN CHARGES

TYRONE BROWN age 21, WALTER BROWN age 23, and ROLAND REYNARD age 26, all residents of New Orleans, Louisiana, were charged today in a ten-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base, conspiracy to use firearms in furtherance of their drug trafficking activities, possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine, and possession of firearms in furtherance of their drug trafficking activities, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

TYRONE BROWN and WALTER BROWN were also charged with being felons in possession of a firearm.

According to the indictment, from a date unknown until approximately May 10, 2008, TYRONE BROWN, WALTER BROWN and ROLAND REYNARD conspired with each other to distribute at least 50 grams of crack cocaine and to use and carry firearms in relation to or in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Counts 3, 4 and 5 of the indictment allege that on May 10, 2008, the defendants possessed with the intent to distribute a quantity of crack cocaine. Counts 6, 7 and 8 allege that on May 10, 2008, the defendants each possessed a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense. Counts 9 and 10 allege that TYRONE BROWN has previously been convicted of two separate felony drug offenses, and WALTER BROWN has three previous felony drug convictions.

If convicted, the defendants faces a maximum term of life imprisonment, a fine of $4 million and five (5) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Maurice E. Landrieu, Jr.
