ALIEN INDICTED BY FEDERAL GRAND JURY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MIGUEL ANGEL MENJIVAR-MARTINEZ, age 45, a resident of Honduras, was charged in a one-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for making a false statement in an application for a passport, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to court documents, on November 5, 2007, MIGUEL ANGEL MENJIVAR-MARTINEZ, stated that he was Jose Enrique Zavala, born on March 10, 1964 in Puerto Rico. It is further alleged the defendant also provided Zavala’s Social Security number and Louisiana Drivers’ License number as proof of citizenship in an effort to secure a passport.

If convicted, MIGUEL ANGEL MENJIVAR-MARTINEZ , faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten years, a fine of $250,000.00 and three years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by the Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Andre’ Jones.
