According to court documents, on April 20, 2008, St. John Parish Sheriff's Deputies observed a grey Pontiac Grand Prix traveling at a high rate of speed and conducted a traffic stop. After identifying the driver as AUTHUR LEE MURDOCK JR., deputies conducted a records check and discovered that the defendant was operating a vehicle without a valid driver's license and was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant from Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a package under the front passenger seat that contained approximately1,000 grams of cocaine hydrochloride.

If convicted, MURDOCK faces a minimum term of imprisonment of five (5) years and a maximum term of imprisonment of forty (40) years and five (5) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
