ALIEN PLEADS GUILTY TO SOCIAL SECURITY FRAUD

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RAMON ENRIQUE CALDERA MENDEZ, a/k/a Carlos Rodriguez, Carlos Rodriguez Nunez, age 43, a resident of Venezuela plead guilty earlier this week to a two-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for misuse of a social security number, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to court documents, on September 21, 2004, and January 10, 2005, RAMON ENRIQUE CALDERA MENDEZ, an alien who had previously been ordered deported from the United States, used another person’s social security number to obtain employment within the Eastern District of Louisiana.

If convicted, RAMON ENRIQUE CALDERA MENDEZ faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten years, a fine of $250,000.00 and three years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

United States District Judge Carl J. Barbier accepted his guilty plea and scheduled a sentencing date of July 9, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. After completion of his sentence, RAMON ENRIQUE CALDERA MENDEZ will be deported to Venezuela.

The case was investigated by the Social Security Administration and is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney W. Scott Laragy.
