Project Safe Neighborhoods: BRIDGEPORT MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL FIREARM CHARGE

Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that SHAMON CLARK, 31, last residing on Madison Avenue in Bridgeport, pleaded guilty today before United States District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a previously convicted felon.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on December 5, 2006, in Bridgeport, CLARK knowingly possessed one Norinco semiautomatic rifle, Model MAK-90 Sporter, Caliber 7.62x39mm; 80 rounds of Wolf 7.62x39mm ammunition; and 100 rounds of Winchester 9mm Luger ammunition.  In addition, a search warrant executed at CLARK’s residence resulted in the seizure of heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine, drug packaging and paraphernalia, and a bullet proof vest.

Prior to December 5, 2006, CLARK had been convicted of multiple felony offenses.  It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

Judge Underhill has scheduled sentencing for December 24, 2008, at which time CLARK faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years and a fine of up to 250,000.

CLARK currently is incarcerated in state custody.

This case was investigated by the ATF Task Force and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Felice Duffy as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative is aimed at reducing gang and gun violence, deterring illegal possession of guns, and improving the safety of residents in Connecticut’s cities.  Participants in the initiative include community members and organizations as well as federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
