WATERBURY MAN SENTENCED TO MORE THAN 12 YEARS IN PRISON FOR TRAFFICKING CRACK COCAINE, GUN POSSESSION

Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that MARC BARRETT, 33, of Waterbury, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to 150 months of imprisonment, followed by 10 years of supervised release, for his involvement in crack cocaine trafficking operation.  On September 25, 2007, BARRETT pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base (“crack”), and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking offense.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, between May 2006 and July 2006, BARRETT, Jerry Henderson and Henderson’s brother, Abdul Baxter, distributed wholesale quantities of crack cocaine in Bridgeport.  With the assistance of an undercover officer, law enforcement was able to infiltrate the conspiracy and obtain substantial amounts of crack from BARRETT and his co-conspirators.

On January 16, 2007, Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force agents arrested BARRETT at his residence at 448 Columbia Boulevard Extension in Waterbury.  A search of BARRETT’s residence revealed 173.4 net grams of crack cocaine, a loaded .357 revolver in an open computer bag next to his bed, $10,995 in a dresser drawer, and two digital scales located under the bed.

Henderson and Baxter each have pleaded guilty to charges stemming from this investigation.  On September 3, 2008, Henderson was sentenced to 240 months of imprisonment.  Baxter awaits sentencing.

This investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force, with assistance from the Norwalk Police Department, into the distribution of controlled substances throughout Fairfield County.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Harold H. Chen.
