Project Safe Neighborhoods: EAST HARTFORD MAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR DISTRIBUTING CRACK COCAINE Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that GENARO GONZALEZ, 28, of East Hartford, was sentenced today by Senior United States District Judge Peter C. Dorsey in New Haven to 60 months of imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release. On October 22, 2007, GONZALEZ pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of cocaine base (“crack cocaine”). According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on February 20, 2007, GONZALEZ sold approximately 28 grams of crack cocaine at his East Hartford residence to an individual cooperating with law enforcement. This case was investigated by the Hartford Violent Crime Impact Team (VCIT), which is a joint task force dedicated to combating violent crime and firearms violations. The VCIT consists of federal and local law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the United States Marshals Service, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Hartford Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brian P. Leaming. | |
