HARTFORD WOMAN SENTENCED TO 41 MONTHS FOR INVOLVEMENT IN HEROIN TRAFFICKING CONSPIRACY Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that MARIA GONZALEZ, 25, of Sisson Avenue, Hartford, was sentenced yesterday, May 27, by United States District Judge Alvin W. Thompson in Hartford to 41 months of imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release, for conspiring to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin. GONZALEZ pleaded guilty to the charge on February 28, 2007. According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on April 18, 2006, GONZALEZ was arrested by Hartford Police detectives after she was observed engaging in apparent narcotics transactions. Police seized 100 packets of heroin from the vehicle that she occupied during this activity. Police then searched a suspected stash location at 59 School Street in Hartford and discovered approximately 650 grams of raw heroin, various items used to prepare and package heroin for resale, and a loaded, semi-automatic firearm. GONZALEZ has been in custody since her arrest. This case was investigated by the Hartford Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert M. Spector. | |
