MAN INVOLVED IN HARTFORD HEROIN TRAFFICKING RING SENTENCED TO 70 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON

Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that ANEUDI CRUZ DELGADO, of Gurabo, Puerto Rico, was sentenced yesterday, April 8, by United States District Judge Alvin W. Thompson in Hartford to 70 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, for his role in a Hartford-based heroin distribution organization that distributed more than a kilogram of heroin per week.  On October 31, 2007, DELGADO pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, this matter stems from a 10-month investigation headed by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Connecticut State Police.  The investigation included the use of undercover agents, confidential informants, controlled purchases and court-authorized wiretaps on telephones known to be used by Felix J. Cancel, Jr., also known as “Feilo,” and his brother, Jose Juan Cancel.  DELGADO worked in Felix Cancel’s heroin packaging mills, which were apartments in Hartford that Cancel leased.  On February 9, 2007, DELGADO fled from an apartment located at 2 Fraser Place, in which Hartford Police subsequently discovered more than two kilograms of heroin.

On March 21, 2007, DELGADO, Felix Cancel, Jose Juan Cancel and 17 others were indicted on various narcotics distribution charges.  The Cancels also have pleaded guilty and await sentencing.

This matter was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Connecticut State Police and several local police departments that participate on a DEA Task Force.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick F. Caruso.
