Project Safe Neighborhoods: HARTFORD MAN SENTENCED TO 81 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR GUN, DRUG POSSESSION

Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that ANTONIO RAMOS, also known as “Bones,” 26, of Sanford Street, Hartford, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Janet C. Hall in Bridgeport to 81 months of imprisonment,. followed by five years of supervised release.  On December 17, 2007, RAMOS pleaded guilty to one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on July 17, 2007, RAMOS was arrested in possession of seven firearms, assorted ammunition, body armor and between 2.5 and five kilograms of marijuana when agents from Hartford’s Violent Crime Impact Team executed a search warrant at 10 Sanford Street, Apartment #2, Hartford.

The Violent Crime Impact Team (VCIT) is a joint task force dedicated to combating violent crime and firearms violations in the City of Hartford.  The VCIT is composed of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, including Special Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, officers from the Hartford Police Department, Deputy United States Marshals from the United States Marshals Service, and Special Agents from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brian P. Leaming.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative is aimed at reducing gun violence, deterring illegal possession of guns, and improving the safety of residents in Connecticut’s cities.  Participants in the initiative include community members and organizations as well as federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
