BRIDGEPORT MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL DRUG CHARGE, AGREES TO FORFEIT SIX FIREARMS

Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that RICARDO MEDINA, 38, of Milne Street, Bridgeport, pleaded guilty today before United States District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and heroin.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, a federal search warrant executed at MEDINA’s residence at 152 Milne Street yielded quantities of heroin and cocaine, six firearms and assorted ammunition, drug paraphernalia, and surveillance cameras that MEDINA had installed to monitor law enforcement activity.  MEDINA redistributed to his own customers cocaine and heroin that he purchased from, among other people, Faustino Pena-Morla and Marcos Morla.

Judge Underhill has scheduled sentencing for May 2, 2008, at which time MEDINA faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of up to $1,000,000.  Under the terms of his plea agreement, MORLA also must forfeit to the Government the six firearms and ammunition.

Pena-Morla and Morla currently are serving terms of imprisonment of 37 months and 70 months, respectively.  Both will be deported to the Dominican Republic when they are released from prison.

This matter was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Bridgeport Drug Task Force.  This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Harold H. Chen.
