MAN WHO PLANNED TO ROB ARMORED CAR SENTENCED TO 9+ YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON

KANSAS CITY, KAN. – Aaron Weathers, Jr., 31, Raytown, Mo., was sentenced Monday to 110 months in federal prison for conspiring to rob a Brinks armored car.

Weathers, who was indicted in 2006 along with co-defendant Victor Roseberry, 23, Raytown, Mo., pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit robbery. He was sentenced Monday during a hearing before U.S. District Judge Carlos Murguia.

“In his plea, Mr. Weathers acknowledged indicating to his fellow conspirators that if the guards in the armored car resisted they would be killed,” said U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren.

In his plea, Weathers admitted that in August 2006 he conducted surveillance for 30 days at the Brinks depot near 9th and Troost in Kansas City. He said he planned to rob one of the armored cars when it stopped on its route in Raytown, Mo., near 350 Highway. He told other people that the robbery would be carried out like a “military operation.”

Weathers conspired with Roseberry and another man, providing them with weapons for the robbery including a Mossberg 12 gauge pistol grip shotgun and a 9 mm handgun.

Roseberry was sentenced in June 2007 to 60 months in federal prison.

Melgren commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Assistant U.S. Attorney Sheri McCracken for their work on the case.
