DRUG DEAL DIDN’T GO WELL, BUT THAT WAS JUST THE BEGINNING...

TOPEKA, KAN. – First, an Oklahoma City man drove 300 miles to Kansas City and couldn’t find a buyer for more than half his crack cocaine.

Then, on the way back home, a Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled him over southbound on I-35 near Emporia.

Now Tuscon D. Redd, II, 26, Oklahoma City, is headed for federal prison.

“Mr. Redd had $18,500 in cash and 126.5 grams of crack cocaine when he was arrested,” said U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren.

Redd was sentenced Tuesday to 5 years in federal prison. He pleaded guilty in August to one count of interstate travel in furtherance of drug trafficking. In his plea, he admitted that on Jan. 18, 2007, he was driving home in a 2004 Cadillac Escalade with more drugs and less money than he expected because a buyer had only purchased half the contracted amount.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy Hendershot prosecuted.
