LAWRENCE MAN SENTENCED FOR BOGUS BOMB CALLS

KANSAS CITY, KAN. – Michael Parker, 47, Lawrence, was sentenced to 85 months in federal prison for calling emergency dispatchers with false claims about bombs in public buildings in Lawrence.

Parker was tried and convicted by a federal jury in September of making calls claiming there were bombs in schools and City Hall in Lawrence, Kan. Evidence presented at trial showed he used a cellular phone to make a series of nine calls to the Douglas County 911 dispatchers on the morning of April 19, 2007. Evidence also showed he had been drinking and smoking crack cocaine at the time of the crimes.

U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren commended the Lawrence Police Department and Assistant U.S. Attorney David Smith for their work on the case.
