Davenport Man Sentenced to Three Years Imprisonment for Bank Robbery

Davenport, IA- On June 2, 2008, Harold Sargeant, age 21, of Davenport, was sentenced to 37 months imprisonment, having previously been convicted of one count of bank robbery, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered Moeller to serve three years on supervised release following imprisonment and pay restitution in the amount of $2,991 to Wells Fargo Bank and an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund.

On the afternoon of August 22, 2007, Sargeant entered the Wells Fargo Bank, 1618 N. Main St., Davenport, IA. Sargeant, who was wearing a blue bandana covering his face below the eyes, handed teller a note stating, “This is a holdup. I want the money in a white bank envelope. I have a gun behind me. Do not attempt to contact police.”

The teller handed Sargeant about $2,991 in United States currency. After Sargeant ran from the bank south through an alley, Davenport police responded, finding the mask and other clothing worn by Sargeant in the alley. Police subsequently traced the robber to nearby apartment building, where they discovered surveillance video showing Sargeant exiting the apartment at about the time of the robbery, wearing a bandana over the lower portion of his face, and walking in the direction of Wells Fargo Bank. The video also showed Sargeant, six minutes later, running away from the bank through the alley.

Sargeant was arrested in Rock Island, IL, and confessed to the robbery. He subsequently pleaded guilty to an indictment charging one count of bank robbery. This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa and investigated by the Davenport Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
