Mexican National Sentenced on Immigration Charges

Davenport, IA- On January 18, 2008, Ezequiel Oronia-Vera, 31, of Mexico, was sentenced to 1 day imprisonment for fraud and misuse of documents (Count 1) and 24 months imprisonment for aggravated identity theft (Count 3) , with the latter sentence to run consecutive to the sentence on Count 1, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered Oronia-Vera to serve a three year term of supervised release following his incarceration, and ordered him to pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund.

Oronia-Vera had earlier pled guilty to misuse of documents and was found guilty on aggravated identify theft following a bench trail. This investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The case was prosecuted by the United states Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
