UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending Nov. 4, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 1.9 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Nov. 4 was 2,443,000, unchanged from the preceding week's revised level of 2,443,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,433,250, a decrease of 750 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,434,000.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 284,842 in the week ending Nov. 11, a decrease of 41,837 from the previous week. There were 283,564 initial claims in the comparable week in 2005. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.6 percent during the week ending Nov. 4, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,113,476, a decrease of 36,597 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 1.8 percent and the volume was 2,364,283. Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending Oct. 28. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,659 in the week ending Nov. 4, an increase of 434 from the prior week. There were 1,930 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 141 from the preceding week. There were 16,054 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Oct. 28, an increase of 1,260 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 25,508, an increase of 213 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Oct. 28 were in Alaska (3.5 percent), Puerto Rico (3.5), Michigan (3.0), Arkansas (2.5), New Jersey (2.4), Pennsylvania (2.4), Oregon (2.2), Massachusetts (2.1), South Carolina (2.1), California (2.0), Connecticut (2.0), Rhode Island (2.0), and Wisconsin (2.0). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Nov. 4 were in Michigan (+3,884), Georgia (+3,002), Texas (+2,395), Washington (+2,102), and Pennsylvania (+2,009), while the largest decreases were in Missouri (-1,926), Indiana (-1,197), Mississippi (-789), Arkansas (-492), and Oklahoma (-349).
