State and Local Liaison Division

As the United States’ point of contact for all INTERPOL matters, the USNCB maintains a close relationship with all state, local, and federal law enforcement authorities in the U.S. and its territories.  The USNCB has established an INTERPOL liaison office in each state, as well as in American Samoa, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and an ever-increasing number of major cities/metropolitan areas in the U.S. These offices work to serve as the focal point for all requests involving international matters under the jurisdiction of state and local law enforcement agencies. Liaison offices are typically located within a state police agency, state bureau of investigation, state Attorney General's office, or major city/county law enforcement agencies. These offices act as a point of contact for communications between state/local law enforcement to the USNCB and INTERPOL. Trained investigative personnel have been designated in each office to assist local law enforcement agencies with INTERPOL requests.

The State and Local Liaison program plays a key role in the United States' involvement in international law enforcement, as the program organizes and unifies the efforts of the almost 18,000 law enforcement agencies in the U.S., with over 90% being at the state and local level. International requests for investigative assistance that require action by state and local law enforcement agencies are forwarded by the USNCB to the appropriate Liaison office in a state, county, or city, that then plays an active role in the INTERPOL investigation, for processing and response.

In addition to the services provided by this program, law enforcement can always make direct contact with the USNCB.
