Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) & e-CFR

The Code of Federal Regulations can be accessed in print or electronically through GPO Access, Lexis or Westlaw. Unfortunately, the print version and GPO Access are only updated annually. Lexis and Westlaw are updated daily, but they are usually one week to ten days behind.

For the most current version of the Code of Federal Regulations, you can go to e-CFR. It is updated daily and usually only one or two days behind. The "beta test" site is maintained by the National Archives and Records Administration's (NARA) Office of the Federal Register (OFR) and the Government Printing Office (GPO). While e-CFR is not the official legal version of the CFR, it can give you a heads up to recent changes.

Note: Since searching is not sophisticated, it's best to use this site when you have a citation. For keyword searching, it's better to go to Lexis or Westlaw.
