Current information about this program can be found under the Education Research program.

The purpose of the Teacher Quality research program is to identify effective strategies for improving the performance of classroom teachers in ways that increase student learning and school achievement and to develop practical assessments of teacher knowledge and validate these assessments against measures of student learning and achievement. Through this program, the Institute will support research on the development and evaluation of teacher professional development programs, professional development delivery mechanisms, and assessments of teacher knowledge. Long term outcomes of the Teacher Quality program will be an array of tools and strategies (e.g., pre-service and in-service programs, policies, assessments) that have been demonstrated to be effective for improving and assessing teacher performance in ways that are linked to increases in student achievement. Projects receiving awards for the first teacher quality research competition are listed below.
