FTA To Host Drug and Alcohol Program National Conference

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA), a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), has announced that it will host its 3rd annual Drug and Alcohol Program National Conference in Orlando, Florida, April 30 through May 1, 2008.

This free, two-day conference is for individuals involved in implementing DOT’s drug and alcohol testing rules for employees in safety-sensitive positions in public transportation.  It will include speakers from DOT’s Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy and Compliance, FTA auditors and FTA Drug and Alcohol Management Information System (MIS) Program staff.  It also will feature presentations by professionals from the drug and alcohol testing industry (including a Medical Review Officer, Substance Abuse Professional, Urine Collector and Breath Alcohol Technician) and representatives from state Departments of Transportation.

During the conference, attendees will have the opportunity to attend a variety of 90-minute presentations and panel discussions, including "The Role of the Substance Abuse Professional," "Prescription and Over the Counter Medications" and "Reasonable Suspicion Training."

To learn more and to register for the event, visit the conference Web site.

Individuals interested in learning more about how to prevent alcohol and drug use among workers—in transportation or other industries—are encouraged to visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Working Partners for and Alcohol- and Drug-Free Workplace Web site.  This Web site offers several training and educational resources that can be used in a variety of work environments to reinforce the value of working drug free to worker and public safety.
