Audio Clip: MSHA is asking miners and management at every mining operation nationwide to do the right thing - to take one hour out for safety's sake today and 'Stand Down for Safety,' to be proactive in preventing future accidents and saving lives. We urge that extra time be taken at the beginning of each shift and before the start of any mining activity to go over the hazards involved and the critical actions necessary to reduce or remove the hazards before work begins.
As part of the Stand Down for Safety, MSHA will hold training sessions and distribute materials to reinforce MSHA's and the company's commitment to miner safety and health.
