UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending July 28, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 1.9 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending July 28 was 2,559,000, an increase of 39,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,520,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,545,750, an increase of 2,000 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,543,750.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 270,634 in the week ending Aug. 4, an increase of 13,320 from the previous week. There were 275,430 initial claims in the comparable week in 2006. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent during the
week ending July 28, unchanged from the prior week.
The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs
totaled 2,454,282, an increase of 5,281 from the preceding week. A year earlier,
the rate was 1.8 percent and the volume was 2,366,848. Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending July 21. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,151 in the week ending July 28, a decrease of 67 from the prior week. There were 1,682 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 2 from the preceding week. There were 14,453 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending July 21, an increase of 614 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 21,303, a decrease of 155 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending July 21 were in Michigan (3.0 percent), New Jersey (3.0), Rhode Island (3.0), Pennsylvania (2.9), Alaska (2.5), Arkansas (2.5), Massachusetts (2.5), Connecticut (2.4), California (2.3), Oregon (2.3), and Wisconsin (2.3). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending July 28 were in Wisconsin (+538), California (+346), Iowa (+193), Oregon (+137), and North Dakota (+47), while the largest decreases were in Michigan (-6,618), Illinois (-3,845), Puerto Rico (-3,705), Tennessee (-3,698), and Kentucky UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE DATA FOR REGULAR STATE PROGRAMS
