President Names Labor Nominee For Public Affairs Former Assistant
Secretary Of Labor To Bring Best Practices
WASHINGTONU.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao announced today
that President George W. Bush has sent to the Senate the nomination of Kathleen
M. Harrington for assistant secretary of labor for public affairs.
I am very pleased with the Presidents decision to nominate
Kathleen, said Chao. Her experience in public affairs and knowledge
of the federal government and Department of Labor in particular will allow us
to effectively reach out to people and promote the programs and services that
hard working Americans need.
Harrington comes from the Health Insurance Association of America where
she was senior vice-president of public affairs and advocacy. Prior to joining
HIAA, Harrington was vice president of federal government relations at Aetna
Inc.
Harrington has also served as assistant secretary of labor for
congressional and intergovernmental affairs under then Secretary of Labor
Elizabeth Dole. Prior to her first appointment at DOL, Harrington was assistant
administrator for public affairs at the Federal Aviation Administration.
Harrington also served as chief of staff to Rep. Nancy Johnson (R-Conn.)
Harrington holds a bachelor of arts from Colgate University and a master
of arts in psychology and statistics from The Catholic University of America.
