MSHA Web Site Available to File Required and Commonly Used Mining Forms

ARLINGTON, Va.—The U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) today urged mine operators and other mining industry groups to use the agency Internet site at www.msha.gov to file required or commonly used forms.

“We’re encouraging everyone in the mining community to file MSHA forms by using the Internet,” said Dave D. Lauriski, assistant secretary of labor for mine safety and health. “Using the Web site, particularly for reporting injuries and production, benefits both MSHA and the public. It saves the government money in printing costs, saves the sender postage, and it allows mine operators to avoid problems caused by lost or delayed mail. This is one more example of how the federal government is using the Internet to become more accessible and responsive to the public.”

Since Oct. 3, 2003, those under MSHA’s regulatory authority have had Internet filing capabilities for the most frequently used and required forms.

The forms available through the Web site include the Mine Accident, Injury and Illness Report (form 7000-1) and the Quarterly Mine Employment and Coal Production Report (form 7000-2), which mine operators use to report injuries and production. The site has legal identification forms for new mine operators and independent contractors who need to register their operations with the agency. Other forms that may be filed electronically include those for submitting hazardous condition complaints, training plans, dust control plans, and requesting petitions for modification.

The online filing page categories include mine identifications; reports, notices and complaints; training plans and mine operation plans; qualification and certification of miners; and equipment approval and waivers.

The site also allows users to look up previously filed forms, change online filing registration information, and answer frequently asked questions.

To file forms with MSHA using the Internet, go to www.msha.gov. Under the quick links heading, click on the forms/online-filing link. Users with questions about filing forms may call the agency’s help desk at 1-877-778-6055.
