You are invited to read the definitions of terms used in this data standard.

Maintenance Code
Description
Unique three-character alphanumeric construction maintenance codes, and three-digit numeric facility maintenance codes, assigned by the Division of Engineering to classify the different types of Government buildings and other structures according to their predominant use. 
Type
Construction maintenance code:  Alphanumeric

Facility maintenance code:  Numeric

Syntax
Construction maintenance code:  CCC, where each C represents a number from 0 through 9, or a letter from A through Z.

Facility maintenance code:  NNN, where each N represents a number from 0 through 9.

Recommended Field Name Construction maintenance code:  CONMAINTCODE

Facility maintenance code:  FACMAINTCODE

ASCII (.txt) files are available here for the Division of Engineering's construction and facility maintenance codes. These values are current  as of February 20, 2002. 

The two ASCII .txt files, as well as electronic copies of the values in Access (.mdb) and Excel (.xls) formats, are also available here for download. The .txt. .mdb, and .xls  files are zipped using PKZip. If you need a copy, PKZip is available for download by clicking here (pkzipdoc.exe). Some browsers may require the user to right-click on the hyperlink text with the mouse, left-click on "Select Target As" or "Save Link As" from the dialog box menu, and save the zipped file to the appropriate user directory. These electronic copies are current as of February 20, 2002.

Use Instructions
As of the approval date, this data element will be used in any new automated system, data set, database, or information application, including new Geographic Information System (GIS) data and applications. This data element will also be used in any major modifications to existing systems or versions of these data-related items that use the Division of Engineering's construction and facility maintenance codes to classify the different types of buildings and other structures according to their predominant use.  

To ensure compliance with the Service Information and Technology Architecture (SITA), Service staff are strongly encouraged to utilize this data element in existing systems, data sets, databases, and information applications. Where existing systems and data-related items are not in compliance, they should be modified to achieve compatibility and implement this data standard.
