Unique two-digit numeric codes assigned by the GSA to classify Government buildings, land, and other structures and facilities, according to their predominant use (i.e., 51% or more).

Federal Property Management Regulations (FPMR), Amendment A-54, 41CFR Section 101-3.4901 -1166 (I) entitled "GSA-Form 1166: Annual Report of Real Property Owned by or leased to the United States" (Rev. 10-97).

NOTE: The Federal Management Regulation (FMR) is the successor regulation to the Federal Property Management Regulations (FPMR) and contains updated regulatory policies originally found in the FPMR:  FMR 102-84.50 stipulates that GSA Form 1166 may no longer be used to report information. Agencies must submit information in an electronic format.

Use Instructions
As of the approval date, this data element will be used in any new automated system, data set, database, or information application, including new geographic information system (GIS) data and applications. This data element will also be used in any major modifications to existing systems or versions of these data-related items that identify the GSA classification codes used to describe the type of predominant use (51% or more) of buildings, land, structures, and facilities under some type of Service jurisdiction. The two-digit GSA classification codes categorize buildings, land, structures, and facilities according to their general usage (e.g., office, hospital, housing, agriculture, airfield pavements, harbor and port facilities, utility systems, etc.). This data element should be used only as described in the reference. Prior to using these values in any new or existing data files, please contact the Data Steward identified in this standard.

To ensure compliance with the Service Information and Technology Architecture (SITA), Service staff are strongly encouraged to utilize this data element in existing systems, data sets, databases, and information applications. Where existing systems and data-related items are not in compliance, they should be modified to achieve compatibility and implement this data standard.
