U.S.-Kyrgyz Statement on Comprehensive Policy Dialogue

The United States and the Kyrgyz Republic today held the inaugural meeting of the U.S.-Kyrgyz Comprehensive Policy Dialogue bringing bilateral relations to a new level. The Comprehensive Policy Dialogue aims to enhance the bilateral relationship through periodic senior level meetings that establish a framework to align long-term strategic goals, identify mutual interests, and expand or initiate cooperation. The Dialogue will encompass the full spectrum of bilateral relations.

The United States and the Kyrgyz Republic reached an understanding on the importance of conducting high-level bilateral dialogue on a regular basis in order to identify ways of further developing long-term cooperation on a wide range of issues. Both countries recognized the need to enhance their bilateral trade and economic partnership, and will continue to work together both at the bilateral level and within the U.S.-Central Asia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement.

Further development of democratic values and human rights are priorities for both nations, and cooperation will continue in this direction. The Millennium Challenge Corporation's approval of a Threshold Program reflects the significant progress Kyrgyzstan has made in political, social, and economic reforms.

The United States and the Kyrgyz Republic recognized the value of high-level cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, including education and cultural exchange programs. They will continue to promote such exchanges, for example at the Open World Program of the Library of Congress.

The United States and the Kyrgyz Republic confirmed their commitment to the fight against international terrorism and will continue cooperation on specific programs, reiterating the importance of security for stabilizing the situation in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. They are ready to carry out active work on joint participation in rebuilding the economy of Afghanistan.
