On March 23rd more than 3,000 schools across Afghanistan opened their doors…the first time in six years that public education will be freely available to all the children of Afghanistan.

Led by Chairman Hamid Karzai, the people of Afghanistan welcomed the first day of school with nationwide celebrations. This event was the culmination of an intensive international effort, led by the United States, to rebuild the decimated Afghan education system from scratch.
