The Division of Law Enforcement includes Bureau police, criminal investigations, and telecommunications and administrative support. There are 29 field police programs and 34 field investigative programs. These field programs are managed by six regional district level offices. This represents about one-third of the total law enforcement programs in Indian country. The majority of law enforcement programs are contracted or compacted to be administered by tribes under provisions of Self-Determination and Self-Government policy. The Division's goal is to successfully implement community based law enforcement programs that strive to serve Indian country by reducing and preventing crime. The Division of Law Enforcement strives to establish effective partnerships with other community service based programs in order to address crime problems in tribal communities.
