1. ED Contracts & Grants
Contract & Grant Award Databases -- List detailed information about contracts and grants awarded by ED since FY 1997.
Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) Grant Database -- Search, query, or browse information and abstracts on all FIPSE discretionary grants since 1994. Information in the database is continually updated by FIPSE and its grantees.
2. Government Information Locator Service
Government Information Locator Service (GILS) -- Helps identify public information resources within the Federal Government, describe the information available in these resources, and assist in obtaining the information.
3. Higher Education & Student Financial Aid
College Opportunities On-Line (COOL) -- Find information about a college based on its name, location, program, or degree offerings. The database contains over 9,000 colleges and universities in the United States -- large universities, small liberal arts colleges, specialized colleges, community colleges, career or technical colleges, and trade schools.
Federal (Title IV) School Codes -- To apply for Federal Student Aid (such as Federal Pell Grants or Federal Stafford Loans) you will have to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and you will need to furnish the Federal (Title IV) school codes. This is a search page to help you find the proper codes.
Closed School Search -- If you believe that a postsecondary school you attended may have closed, you may be able to use this screen to confirm this and to determine the date the school closed. Please note that the closed school list includes only schools that at one time participated in the federal Student Financial Assistance Programs.
Low-Income Schools Eligible for Perkins Cancellation -- To be eligible for Perkins teaching cancellation, you must be teaching full-time at a low-income school, as determined by the State Education Agency. To find out if the school that employs you is classified as a Low Income School, you can check our on-line database for the year(s) that you have been employed as a teacher.
Cohort Default Rate -- Find the percentage of a school's student borrowers who enter repayment on certain Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program and/or Direct Loan Program loans during a particular federal fiscal year (Oct. 1-Sept. 30) and default before the end of the next fiscal year.
4. K-12 (Elementary & Secondary Education)
National Public School & School District Locator -- Find the correct name, address, telephone number, NCES ID number, urbanicity (rural, large city, etc.), and other student and teacher information for public schools or school districts.
Private School Locator -- Find the correct name, address, telephone number, enrollment, affiliation, and other information for private schools.
5. Organizations & People
ED Phonebook -- Search for an ED employee by name or organization.
Education Resource Organizations Directory (EROD) -- Identify and contact organizations that provide information and assistance on a broad range of education-related topics in your state or nationally.
6. Publications
ED Pubs On-Line Ordering System -- Identify and order current U.S. Department of Education publications and products.
ED Publications in ERIC -- Contains bibliographic information and abstracts for more than 20,000 publications produced or funded by ED since 1980.
ERIC Database -- The Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) database, the world's largest source of education information, contains more than a million abstracts of documents and journal articles on education research and practice. The database is updated monthly.
7. Research & Statistics
NCES Electronic Catalog -- Find information about and locate all National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) publications and data products. You may also browse the content of publications or download data files.
NCES Online Data Access Tools -- Select from among several NCES data access tools. These tools allow you to find information from many NCES data sources, including College Opportunities On-Line, the National Public School and School District Locator, and the International Archive of Education Data.
