The Department of Labor’s (DOL) Employment and Training Administration (ETA) administers several programs designed to assist employers in finding employees and helping potential employees find employers, in addition to job training and apprenticeship programs. The Katrina Recovery Job Connection is a resource that helps connect job seekers impacted by hurricane Katrina with employers interested in hiring them for either new permanent employment or for jobs related to the cleanup, recovery and rebuilding process in hurricane-impacted areas. While the site is intended to complement the efforts at the state and local level to connect workers and jobs in the impacted areas, it is also intended to make individuals evacuated to other states aware of opportunities in their home state. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), a part of DOL, collects, processes, analyzes, and disseminates essential statistical data to the American public, the U.S. Congress, other Federal agencies, State and local governments, business, and labor. Statistical data available from which may be of interest to employers BLS include state and local employment and unemployment rates, data by industry on employment, hours worked and earnings, wage data by area and occupation and employment projections.
