OSHA Welcomes L’Oreal USA’s Commitment to Voluntary Protection Program

FRANKLIN, N.J.—The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today welcomed L’Oreal USA’s public commitment to excellence in worker safety and health programs through its pledge to bring all nine of its U.S. manufacturing plants into OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star status within the next five years. L’Oreal formalized its commitment at a ceremony today at the company’s Franklin, N.J. plant, which achieved VPP Star status six years ago.

“L’Oreal USA’s pledge to bring all of its U.S. manufacturing facilities into VPP Star status within five years is tremendous news,” said John Henshaw, assistant secretary of labor for occupational safety and health. “L’Oreal clearly recognizes the value of safety and health to its business, to its workplaces, and to the lives of its workers. We are pleased that L’Oreal has demonstrated excellence and leadership in workplace safety and health in this way, and we encourage other companies to follow its example.”

Over the last three years, the L’Oreal Group has achieved a 44 percent reduction in its lost time injury rate in its factories worldwide. In addition, four of L’Oreal’s U.S. manufacturing plants have already achieved VPP Star status: Franklin, Clark, and Piscataway, N.J., and North Little Rock, Ark. L’Oreal joins approximately 30 other corporations who have also made corporate commitments to the VPP.

The Voluntary Protection Program promotes effective worksite-based safety and health. In the VPP, management, labor, and OSHA establish cooperative relationships at workplaces that have implemented a comprehensive safety and health management system. Approval into VPP is OSHA’s official recognition of the outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have implemented exemplary safety and health management systems.

OSHA is dedicated to assuring worker safety and health. Safety and health add value to business, the workplace and life. For more information, visit www.osha.gov.
