Academic Affairs

The National Defense University’s Office of Academic Affairs is committed to building a community of learning by ensuring education that is learner centered, academically excellent, and offered in the context of a dynamic global environment in support of the mission of the University.

The Office of Academic Affairs has responsibility for University policies and oversight for all faculty and academic issues. The Vice President for Academic Affairs, as chief academic officer, has broad responsibility that includes oversight of the curriculum, faculty development and professional faculty issues, academic programming, and advances in educational technology and distributed learning.

Beyond the walls of the University, Academic Affairs also has the broad responsibility for developing and enhancing professional relationships with Federal organizations, the accreditation community, consortia, and the broader higher education community, relevant professional organizations, and US and international defense colleges and schools.

Academic Affairs is focused on providing a world-class registrar operation serving a wide constituency and an exceptionally diverse student and alumni population. The registrar is the single focal point for advising the University community on creative solutions that document and maintain effective student records with support for a worldwide alumni base.

The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) is a trusted provider of accurate, timely, unbiased, research-based information regarding the University, in support of the University mission. The OIR provides information and analysis support for the planning, decision-making, assessment, and reporting needs of the NDU leadership.
