Press Statement Robert Wood, Acting Deputy Spokesman Washington, DC August 19, 2008
Somalia – Murder of World Food Program Official The United States condemns the murder of Abdulkadir Diad Mohamed, an administration and finance assistant for the World Food Program in Mogadishu, Somalia. We offer our deepest sympathy and condolences to Mohamed’s family and colleagues.
While the brutal murder of Mr. Mohamed was a callous and cowardly act, his death is a reminder of the risks humanitarian staff in Somalia regularly take to provide assistance to the millions of unfortunate innocents caught in the ongoing turmoil. The United States lauds the work of Mr. Mohamed and all assistance workers in Somalia, reiterates its commitment to support peaceful dialogue and compromise in the spirit of the Djibouti Agreement, and calls on all parties to ensure the safety of all humanitarian staff in Somalia.
