Eforms

Westlaw offers a collection of court and agency forms as PDF documents in the eforms databases. Included are forms specific to:

  • Federal courts and agencies (FEDFRMS);
  • Federal and state courts and agencies of a particular state (e.g., Texas State and Federal Courts and Agencies (TX-FRMS-ALL)); and
  • State courts and agencies of a particular state (e.g., California State Courts and Agencies (CA-FRMS)).

Alternatively, you can search the Westlaw eforms State and Federal Courts and Agencies (ALLFRMS) multibase. To see which Westlaw eforms are available for a jurisdiction, browse the Westlaw Directory <http://directory.westlaw.com/>, or once you’ve signed on to Westlaw with your user ID and password, type a description of the eforms you need (e.g., eforms ohio state courts) in the “Search these databases” text box in the left frame of the Welcome to Westlaw page or in the “Search for a Database” text box at the top of the Westlaw Directory page.

Once you've accessed a Westlaw eforms database, you can search the form titles by using the Terms and Connectors search method, the Natural Language search method, or the search template.

Example: To search for forms to use for registering a foreign limited partnership in California, access CA-FRMS, and click Template Search if not already selected. Type partnership /2 limited & foreign in the Search text box and select Secretary of State from the Court or Agency list. Then click Search Westlaw. To display a form in your result, click the form's link. Then click the PDF icon in the window that appears.

Westlaw eforms contain fill-in-the-blank fields. Once you have located the appropriate form in an eforms database, you can fill in the fields online. In addition, Westlaw eforms allow you to:

  • Highlight and underline text
  • Attach documents
  • Insert sticky notes and stamps (e.g., DRAFT)
  • Insert a digital signature
  • Save the completed document with your changes intact

If you are unable to locate the form you need in a Westlaw eforms database, the Wirtz Labor Law Library has in its print collection West's Legal Forms, American Jurisprudence Legal Forms, and Moore’s Manual: Federal Practice Forms. For information about other online sources of court forms, please see the past tips Legal Forms and Findlaw (the third bulleted item is “Forms”).

Note: To access the forms available in the Westlaw eforms databases, you will need Adobe Reader 6.0 software or later, a standard inclusion on most computers and available for free download online <http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html>.
