Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao honored the late Adolphus Busch, founder of Anheuser-Busch Brewing Co., by inducting him into the Labor Hall of Fame for his contributions to the workers’ movement. Anheuser-Busch President and CEO August A. Busch IV, great-great-grandson of Adolphus Busch, accepted the award from Secretary Chao.

Secretary Chao also inducted the first secretary of labor and former secretary-treasurer of the United Mine Workers of America, the late William B. Wilson into the 19th Labor Hall of Fame. Wilson, a Scottish immigrant, joined the local Miners and Laborers Benevolent Association at age 11 and became the local’s secretary at age 16. Wilson was later elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and was appointed by President Woodrow Wilson in 1913 to be the first secretary of the Department of Labor. (DOL Photo/Shawn Moore)
